Oh cluna.i am sorry.sweet baggs.how is Baer doing?. *hugs*

@  Rattieroos : (14 February 2018 - 11:42 PM)

Recently lost Dove and Peaches as well. Dove had an ovarian tumor that even the vet was shocked at the size. I let him do a necropsy and he let me stay. Then Peaches had 3 lumps removed but somewhere within the 1st or 2nd day recovery from the surgery, she must have had a stroke or a blood clot :bigeyecry:

@  Rattieroos : (14 February 2018 - 11:38 PM)

So sorry about Baggs Cluna :ratsad:

@  Caryn : (12 February 2018 - 07:43 AM)

I'm so very sorry Cluna :ratsad:

@  Cluna : (09 February 2018 - 12:09 PM)

Thanks Lolly. It would probably be worse for me, but better for her as she loved us so much. She always wanted out of the cage and to be with us. When I found her, she even looked like she was trying to get out the cage. I can only hope that her best friend Bear was there for her at least. Man, we miss her so much. :ratsad:

@  lollyh : (05 February 2018 - 07:43 PM)

Oh cluna.i am so so sorry to hear about baggs. :ratsad: she went the best way.its not easy when they pass in your hands but maybe I've just had to many goodbyes like that.i hope your heartache eases soon.she will always be in your heart. *hugs* .we are all hear from you.

@  Cluna : (05 February 2018 - 12:58 PM)

Hi guys. I haven't been around in a while, and I don't know if you remember me or my ratties, Baggs and Bear. Sadly Baggs (nearly 3) passed on Friday. She was incredibly thin and her breathing was so heavy. Unfortunately, I found her in her cage in the morning and didn't have her die in my hands like I'd wished. She was my heart rat and I am still absolutely devastated. :bigeyecry:

@  Caryn : (19 January 2018 - 06:37 PM)

Thanks. Yeah, she was nearing 2,5yrs and had been on heart meds for CHF for close to 8mths. I got way more time with her than I expected to be honest, but it's never enough time :ratsad:

@  Rattieroos : (18 January 2018 - 09:17 PM)

@ Caryn.. Im so so sorry about Buttons!!!!! Only saw your post now when I checked to see if the forums worked.

Hi all.

Just a question out of curiosity, what are your ratties diets?

I personally use the RN Mix supplemented with fresh veg every day.

All of you have a good weekend.  :)

The SnuggaRat Maintenance mix. Don't think my rats have ever looked as good as they do know, and I've been trying various diets for the past 8 years with them.

I feed mine Reggie Rat with either my own extra seeds, cereals, etc added or recently I've been mixing it with Pretoria Rattery mix 50/50 with the Reggie Rat.

Then they get a small amount of baby cereal/porridges for breakfast every morning and of course the usual fresh foods for supper in the evening to supplement the dry mix.

I have a biiig plastic bowl and in that I mix Reggie rat with dry macaroni noodles, weetbix, all bran or corn flakes, white sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, puffed wheat cereal ( the plain one ) roasted unsalted cashew nuts ( sometimes ) dried bananas ~ cant think if that's it, think so. Mix it all up and put in sealable containers. With my bunch you won't believe how quickly all that goes lol

I give baby porridge and Ensure to my two oldies or yoghurt and ensure....every now and then my others get that as well. My children get their two or three Milo cereal in the mornings when Jamie has breakfast. If she has macaroni and cheese all the rats get one that she saves for them :) if I cook pasta they get some plain cooked pasta for dinner or cous cous with peas and corn or cooked rice, basically dinner about three times a week. For the rest they have their dry food.

Other things they get occasionally, peeled cucumber, peas, corn, strawberries, fresh banana. Mine are fussy they only like cooked broccoli, occasional egg

Okay I talk too much
My current Ratties: Dove, Marybelle, Rosy, Ivy, Peaches, Plum and Duff (girls) Thunder, Doodle and Wallee (neutered boys) then my intact boys: Rodger and Dodger :ratlol: :tummykiss:

Well in morning they get baby cereal (no milk only water so pick the ones that say add milk) or pronutro baby! Pretoria rattery dry mix all day! Then a choice of these each day, butternut/sweet potato/ gem/ brocalli/ peas/ Millie/ rice/ cous cous/ grapes/ Apple/pear/ banana/ noodles!
And cheerio treats!

I am with Michele on this one. My rats get the Snuggarat mix and they thrive on it. My rats all have excellent coats, my babies grow into monsters in no time.

I switch up between PTA Rattery dry mix and Snuggarat Mix, I'll add Reggie Rat too if I manage to get my hands on some (the area I live in seems to have a problem with stocking reggie rat), the boys also get baby porridge every morning, and I also give them fresh vegetables and cooked rice/pasta at least 4 times a week. Chicken/chicken bones and other protein rich foods such as pink salmon and scrambled egg I limit to maybe once every two weeks (the dry mix provide adequate protein) - fresh water is available 24hrs a day.

I also give them marie biscuits, they get one each ever so often and also yoghurt drops which they love. They don't like banana (whether dried or fresh)...then again they seem to dislike any fruit, they'll maybe indulge in some grapes and sometimes they'll have yoghurt (they do love custard though).

KatD I wouldn't even bother with RR if you feed PTA/SR mix. RR is very high in preservatives and sodium which is no good for kidneys and there has been some link between preservative rich foods and tumour development. Besides, it's far more expensive so not even as if it is helpful on the expense front.
