She says she has had the captcha disabled, so the problem should be solved now. Hopefully people are able to join up without hassle if they try again.

@  ronelrat : (08 July 2018 - 10:02 AM)

There are people wanting to join the forum who says they received a message asking for a security code?

@  Caryn : (07 July 2018 - 05:49 PM)

Two of my girls over the years have had strokes. Both were still alive when I found them but suffering side effects ie: paralysis, loss of cognitive function. Sadly there is not much that can be done if they are very far gone, smaller strokes can be treated and rats can recover. Seizures are horrible. Mavdb had a couple of boys with issues, you may be able to find posts here on the forum.

@  lollyh : (25 June 2018 - 04:33 PM)

Thank you caryn.yes i know you would.:-).i love her so much.i dont care about the cost.really i dont.even though everyone around me says im mad & just put her down. :bigeyecry: .no unfortunately i don't have an edgars account.

@  Caryn : (25 June 2018 - 11:43 AM)

Sorry you're going through that with your girl. You know I'd opt for the surgery, Dr O says he can do it and I trust him completely. I realise cost is an issue though. Do you have an Edgars acct you can pay with or can you sign a debit order with them? That's what I usually do for larger surgery costs.

i have such a hard decision to make. :bigeyerat:

Hi all I haven't been on these forums for a while, glad to be back. I am in a bit of a dilemma. Recently my girl rat (Zoey) lost her friend. I got both rats at a petshop, but the other girl (Chloe) just wasn't right from the start. Considering the condition those poor babies live in at the petshop, I am not surprised. I now realize though that I should have taken three girls at the time instead of just two, as my poor Zoey is now pining terribly for her friend. I have tried everything so far while searching for friends for her, having my dad build her a new and better cage, adding more toys and things to keep her occupied, giving her extra treats, giving her as much love and attention as I can. But she remains depressed, she won't even sleep in her hammock, and she used to love her hammock. But now I have this other problem. . .I live in Vryheid (KZN) and that apparently places me too far away from the nearest breeders and rescues, and I cannot make a drive out to PMB or DBN right now. Also, even if I decided to get her friends from the petshop again, I checked and not even the petshop has a single rat! They say that rats are in extremely short supply in this area. I have asked around locally and advertised on local facebook groups, searched other advertising pages, etc., but I am starting to get the funny feeling that I own the last rat in my town. . .haha. . . Any ideas out there please? I would hate for my ratty to die from a broken heart, she is so sweet and still so young.

I'm from the Mischief Rat Rescue branch in KZN. I've started putting out feelers to see if anyone travels between us that can drop off rats. Maybe you can ask around if anyone on your side drives between the two? I have a baby girl and also a male that is due to be neutered next week. I have made a plan to send rats two hours away (Richards Bay) before. If you fill out an application form on http://www.saratrescue.org/adopting then I am sure we can make a plan.

Rats in petshops always come into short supply in mid-summer and mid-winter because they generally live outside and die from extreme temperatures. You will find more feeder rats available in spring/autumn when they survive the conditions better. Even Durban goes through pinkie shortages.
